I always come back to my mat.
I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years. During this time, I have gone long periods without going to a class or doing a home practice. But I always end up back on my mat.
And do you want to know a secret? I always feel great after I do.
I have taken a break from my yoga practice, from teaching and from my yoga business in general for the last two months. A bit of a summer hiatus.
After I made the decision to let go of my rental at The Collective Offices, I felt a bit discouraged and uncertain about my future. I was disappointed that I didn’t draw as many students as I had hoped. I began to question what I was doing, the choices I had made, the life I was trying to create. I felt let down by myself and by yoga and the universe.
I have been teaching over the last couple of months, a couple of classes here and there up at the beautiful Radiant Joy Yoga in Uxbridge. But I haven’t been practicing yoga for myself.
Over the past week and a half I ended up teaching 4 classes, pretty much all in a row. And they were all great classes. I felt great about what I was offering my students and I received some amazing feedback from them where I truly felt I was in a place that was serving them at my fullest.
And then it clicked.
I remembered that I am a damn good teacher. I am fun and silly and clumsy. I am knowledgeable and helpful and creative. I have a lot to share and teach my students to help them to feel better in their bodies, their yoga practice and their lives off the mat.
More importantly, I remembered why I love the practice of yoga. Because it can be fun and silly and clumsy while helping us heal, learn and grow.
And, I got my butt back on my mat. Just for me.
And it felt great.
